Diversity reigns supreme! Add some fun to your summer by attending one (or all!) of my workshops. Each session is $95 per person plus $35 materials fee, starts at 10 a.m., and ends somewhere around 4 p.m. A light lunch is provided, but feel free to bring a snack.
Workshops are limited to 8 participants, so sign up early. My studio is located in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles near The Grove.
Alternative Polaroid Processes

Image Transfer, Emulsion Lift, SX-70 Manipulation – Instant art?! Polaroid film is used to create painterly images suitable for framing or transforming into custom stationery and notecards. Workshop participants are asked to bring 6-8 of their favorite images – 4x6 prints or 35mm slides.

Unique Business Cards, Promo Cards, Postcards, Notecards, Invitations – In this tantalizing workshop, photographers learn how to transform their images, whether film- or digital-based, into personalized products such as custom business cards, promotional materials, client publications and stationery.

“Beyond the Photographic Print” utilizes the powerful features of Adobe Photoshop as the basis for digital imaging and simple graphic design. Layouts are then printed on suitable papers for an elegant, professional presentation with a fine art flair. If you have a laptop computer, please bring it.

Photoshop Layouts Transformed into Handmade Books with Decorative Embellishments and Edge-Sewn Bindings – Learn how to create one-of-a-kind books by combining digital graphic design with handmade papers and embellishments from around the world, then applying traditional binding techniques.

And now... The Auratone

Be one of the first to be trained in this exciting new technique. Combining digital printing and gold leaf, you’ll learn how to create unique pieces of fine art worthy of a gallery show. Similar to Edward S. Curtis’ Orotones which were produced in the darkroom, Barbara has developed a process that allows you to work in the comfort of the studio under ordinary lighting conditions.

An Introduction to the Art of Typography

Welcome to the world of fonts…old style, modern, script, decorative, calligraphic, and even grunge. Discover swashes, ligatures and ornaments…there are even special characters hidden within your computer that you probably don’t even know exist. In this exciting workshop you’ll learn where to find fonts, how to download them, and most importantly, how to use them effectively to complement your photographs and printed materials. Conveniently located in a bohemian L.A. neighborhood near The Grove and a variety of ethnic restaurants, a natural foods store, and a coffee house, my studio is now available for rental on an hourly basis. Includes seamless backdrops as well as textured walls, lighting, Epson Inkjet Printer, Epson 1680 flatbed scanner, paper cutter, art and craft supplies, Daylabs and amenities (snack counter, restroom, and lounge area). Perfect for photographers and/or book & paper artists. $75/hr plus materials
